OK - I've had enough of the stupid chickens around here! They follow me when I come out of the house! They're worse than a pack of dogs who get under your feet when your trying to walk, always wanting a snack or something! It's a good thing I'm not scared of chickens.
It all started with the one who wanted to roost on our grill on the porch at night (yeah, I know, must be some kind of death wish?). Well, it soon turned into two. Not bad, but pretty dirty if you know anything about chickens - a manure problem. The little buggers started watching me through the window. Then they started pecking on the window frame to get my attention! It was getting a little freaky! Pop-pop finally took them off the porch and put them in a pen as punishment. We haven't been brave enough to let them back out yet.
Last weekend, while unloading my groceries, I left my kitchen door open to get the job done faster. OK, I know you see where this is going . . . yes, a crazy chicken followed me into the kitchen! Luckily, I was able to shoo her back out. I gave Schnitzel (our dog) a hard time for not being a little more diligent as a watchdog, but I don't think she really cared or thought it was all that odd.
Now for the straw that broke the camel's back - while unloading groceries on Saturday - two brazen chickens jumped into the van! Yes, I said the van! I yelled at them, but to no avail. They perched themselves on the tailgate just as cute as can be. I should have taken a picture! A brisk threatening "Shoo!" managed to scare off one of the offenders, however, the other was positioned to go further into the vehicle! So, I had to grab her and give her a toss! Needless to say, my mother was enjoying the whole show! Pop-pop could hear the whole episode all the way down into the woods from his hunting stand!
Well, I'm still not scared of chickens, but I'm really getting tired of their pranks, especially since they're directed at me! I have only two words - CHICKEN COOP!
